Words from the Director

As my flight landed at LAX in advance of the annual conference of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, I thought about how proud I was to be associated with The Hartt School Community Division. So many of our programs are exemplars in the field.  The Hartt Community Division faculty are the envy of many comparable schools.  Our students are among the highest achieving in the country.

As we strive to improve our facilities, render our operations more efficient and provide access to an increasingly diverse community, I am confident our school has the foundation, resources and ingenuity to be the best at what we do.  Thank you all for being a part of the Hartt School Community Division success story.

Director, Hartt School Community Division

Important Information from the Suzuki String Department

Brian Lewis Weekend

Thank you to everyone for an amazing weekend of learning, fellowship, and beautiful music.  I would like to thank all the teachers for preparing their students so well for the master classes and also endorsing the entire weekend.  I would like to thank all the parents who helped sell tickets, make posters, helped out at the potluck and anything else I may have forgotten to mention.  Most of all I would like to thank the students for their dedication and commitment.  I felt they all exhibited wonderful respect, natural curiosity, and appreciation for Brian's teaching and his performing.

I was overwhelmed by the number of people attending the recital and pot luck dinner.  I felt we made a giant step forward in reuniting our community.

~ Teri Einfeldt

Adult Piano Workshop for HCD Piano Students: Monday, November 12 th at 7:30pm in Berkman

The first of four Adult Piano Workshops will be held this Monday, November 12 th at 7:30pm in Berkman. The purpose of these evenings is to provide a time for our adult students to perform, socialize, talk, listen, commiserate and simply put, get together with others who share their interest in music. This is not intended to be either a recital or masterclass, but rather a low-key performance opportunity amongst friends.

We also welcome any adult who would like to visit the class to listen or to offer moral support to one of our performers. Many times we have seen adults who first came to the class to listen and eventually became so comfortable in the surroundings that they chose to play.

The Adult Piano Workshops are scheduled for:

November 12

March 18 Special Beginner/Intermediate Workshop

March 19

May 22

All Workshops will be held at 7:30 pm in Berkman Auditorium.

Contact your teacher today if you wish to participate in an informal performance experience for any adult piano students studying through the Community Division.

News from the Dance Department

Dress A Dancer
Your help is needed in raising a relatively small amount of money so that we can purchase children's ballet uniforms for members of the Boys & Girls Clubs who take dance instruction with us. We are able to purchase the uniforms at the cost price of $30 each thanks to Darlene Zoller, faculty member and owner of DanceWorks.   We need to outfit about 15 new students with ballet shoes, leotard and skirt. A donation of $30 will dress one child or please consider donating pre-packed snacks or bottled water that can be sold at the reception desk in Hartford . Thank you.

Parents' Observation Week: November 5 - 9
During the week beginning Monday, November 5th* through Saturday, November 9th, all parents, Grandparents, Uncles and Aunties etc., are invited to watch their children during their normal class time.  We recommend that all students and parents take advantage of this opportunity to also observe classes of a higher level than their own.   We ask that younger siblings sit with their parents and do not run in and out of the studios and remind you that street shoes are not allowed on dance floors.   At this time we will also be displaying all items from our lost and found.  Please take a moment to see if any of your child's belongings are there.  Any items not claimed will be either donated to charity or added to our Uniform Exchange Program as appropriate.

* Due to Nutcracker rehearsals, on Monday, November 5th, C Ballet observation will be postponed to Monday, November 12th.
