Get Ready to Participate in the Practice-a-thon
All music and dance students of the Hartt Community Division are asked to participate in a school-wide practice-a-thon to raise money for the chronically hungry. Our mission is to strengthen our students’ home and studio practice habits while combating the scourge of hunger in our community. From Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 10, students will commit to daily home practice or studio time for dancers. Each student will find sponsors willing to pledge a small amount of money for each minute practiced. The collective result will demonstrate how the performing arts can truly make a difference.
Practice-a-thon Worksheets and Practice Logs are available on the Community Division Website right now!
Here is what you do:
STEP 1:
Find sponsors (mom, dad, family, friends, neighbors, teachers) before May 1st who will pledge a certain amount for each minute of practice or studio time for dancers. Suggested amounts are pennies, nickels, dimes or quarters. Every penny will make a difference!
STEP 2: Practice or dance daily (minimum 15 minutes) from Friday, May 1st through Sunday May 10th. Keep track of your practice minutes on the Daily Practice Log. The more you practice the more you are helping to feed the hungry.
STEP 3: Calculate the amount of each pledge on your worksheet and collect pledges from all your sponsors throughout the week of May 11. Cash is OK. Make checks out to the University of Hartford. Parents may make additional donations beyond the amount pledged if they like.
STEP 4: Turn in your pledges, along with your daily practice log and worksheet to your private teacher or dance instructor no later than Saturday May 16th.
STEP 5: Community Division faculty will turn in their studio's Daily Practice Logs and pledge money in a special envelope to one of the Community Division offices no later than May 21st for their students to be eligible for prizes. (Pledge money will still be accepted after this date.)
Prizes will be awarded to students who have practiced the most minutes and raised the most money for each of the following four age groups:
Students age 3-6 - Students age 7-12 - Students age 13- 18 - Adult students
Teachers with the greatest percentage of students participating (minimum studio size10) and the studio with the greatest number of minutes/student (minimum studio size 5) also receive prizes.
Prizes include a Kidlywinks gift package, Rock Cats tickets, Hartford Symphony tickets, Biava String Quartet tickets, Borders gift certificates, and restaurant gift certificates (Red Robin, Bertucci’s, etc.)
