Don’t Forget to Find your Sponsors for the Hartt Practice-A-Thon
Friday, May 1st is the first day of the Hartt Community Division Practice-A-Thon for Musicians and Dancers. Students will find sponsors to pledge a small amount of money for every minute they play, sing and dance to raise money for the chronically hungry. Our mission is to strengthen our students’ home and studio practice habits and help stamp our hunger in our community.
The Practice-A-Thon runs from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 10. The collective result will demonstrate how the performing arts can truly make a difference in our community.
Ask your teacher for Practice-A-Thon information today! Practice-A-Thon Worksheets and Practice Logs are also available on the Community Division Website www.hcd.hartford.edu.
Special Community Service Opportunity
Music students are asked to join me for a special outing on Sunday, May 3, 4:30pm - 6:30pm at the Sunrise Senior Center (22 Simsbury Road - just down the street from UHA). Community Division students will join University of Hartford students to spend a few hours with the Sunrise residents. We will play a little music and get to know some of our community elders. A piano and piano accompanist will be available for informal performances.
Contact the Community Division office at (860) 768-4451 or harttcomm@hartford.edu if you are interested in joining us for this event.

Hartt Community Division Vocal Student Miri Kassow (right) was vocal soloist in the 50th Performance of “I Remember” (Based on the writing of Anne Frank) by Michael Cohen, scored for voice, piano, cello and flute. New York librettist Enid Futterman (left) attended the concert and was moved to tears by the impact of Miri’s performance. This was the first time the piece was performed by a young person, close in age to Anne Frank. The concert was held at on Sunday, April 19 at Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford as part of the Days of Remembrance, April 19-26, established by the U.S. Congress.
