Performer’s Certificate Prospective Class Entering Fall, 2009

During the first week of May 2009, invitation letters were sent to the prospective Performer’s Certificate Class of 2011.  Those students entering 10th and 11th grades in the fall 2009 that successfully performed on the spring 2009 honors recitals for each division, and have also received department recommendation, have been invited by Donna Menhart, program coordinator, to join the program.  Interested students must return the form enclosed with the invitation or contact Mrs. Menhart by June 1, 2009.

The Performer’s Certificate Program, which meets on Monday’s from 3:30-5:30, is a two-year comprehensive activity for the most talented high school instrumental and vocal performers, providing music theory, ear training, and music history classes along with performance opportunities, music seminars, and research and master class instruction by Edward Cumming, artist-in-residence.

The winds, brass, and percussion students will be invited to join the program after their auditions on May 16.

If you have any questions about the program or feel you are the appropriate age and have met the above criteria and have not received an invitation, please contact Donna Menhart at menhart@hartford.edu or 860-768-4120.

Attn: Concert Choir Singers and Parents
Next Tuesday, May 12, will be a recording/concert session.

Memo From Dr. Younse, Ms. Ferrebee, Mrs. Gilson
Date:    May 11, 2009
Re:  Concert recording session ~ Next Tuesday, May 12, will be a recording/concert session.

Here are the details:

The recording session will be in Konover Campus Center on campus of the University of Hartford.  This is the A-frame building to the right of Lincoln Theater.  Continue past the Hartt building and take the second left into the parking lot for Lincoln Theater.  We ask that singers be at Konover by 5:15 p.m. so that we can begin right at 5:30 p.m.

Concert Choir singers should wear Concert Dress.

Parents are invited and encouraged to attend this recording session! (an audience helps us sing at our best)

The recording will be available for purchase by Concert Choir families.

Having a recording/concert time enables us to start/stop pieces as well as re-record.  We will use this recording when we submit an application for performance at music conferences.

The recording session will end at the usual time: 7:30 p.m.

Thank you for your support of CCC!

Infinitango in Concert

in
violinist – Jessica Meyer, accordionist – Markus Centola, pianist – Maria Bessonova, and double bassist– Jonathan Crane

May 17, 3:00 PM at the Columbia Congregational Church
325 Route 87, Columbia, Connecticut 06237

Infinitango's (formerly Heart and Tango) performances combine the essence of Tango Argentino, Nuevo Tango, International Tango - the pulse, the sorrow and its emotional intensity together with the musicians’ personal expressions. Formed a few years ago in Connecticut and comprised of a violinist – Jessica Meyer, an accordionist – Markus Centola, a pianist – Maria Bessonova, and a double bass player – Jonathan Crane, this dynamic ensemble of young professionals has created a bright and unique repertoire equally suited for the dance hall or the concert stage. While evoking an unforgettable Argentine sentiment with classics from “Golden Age”, they also create new, innovative works with a timeless sense of beauty. Infinitango plays the music with a deep understanding of tradition as well as an obsessive desire to evolve the art form to new levels. For more information on upcoming performances, check our our myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/infinitango.
