Suzuki Guitar Student Ernie Andreoli, featured in the April issue of the Glastonbury Life Newspaper
Ernie Andreoli is a 13 year old Suzuki Guitar Student who studies with Jim Rickevicius in the Hartt Community Division’s Suzuki String program. Ernie was featured in an article by Nancy Thompson, in the April issue of the Glastonbury Life Newspaper.
Ms. Thompson describes how Ernie’s gig at the Glastonbury Senior Center has transformed from a one-time gig last December, into a monthly performance for the seniors.
“While many youths spend their vacation time traveling or hanging out at the mall or playing video games, Ernie has gotten into the habit of going to the senior center to play classical music on his guitar.
His new gig started in December, when he provided entertainment for the senior’s New Year’s Eve party. “Ernie quickly learned to play ‘Auld Lang Syne’ and with more than 200 seniors singing, we welcomed the new year in grand style,” said Maryleah Skoronski, coordinator of the local senior center.
The relationship could have ended there, but Ernie offered to return during his February vacation and Ms. Skoronski scheduled the center’s monthly birthday party to coordinate with his visit. He’s also planning to entertain for the monthly party taking place during his April vacation and to participate in the multi-generational talent show in May.
Ernie is becoming not only a regular, but a favorite with the seniors who look forward to school vacations and a visit from Ernie and his magical guitar”.
The article went on to explain how Ernie got started.
“Mrs. Andreoli contacted the Hartt School’s Community Division, where instructors use the Suzuki method to teach students, mostly children, to play a variety of instruments including guitar. Ernie has been taking lessons there with Jim Rickevicius for eight years. “He’s a great kid, “ Mr. Rickevicius said. “He’s a kind-hearted kid. He always comes in smiling and he’s happy to work hard at his lessons. Mr. Rickevicius said he suggested to Ernie that he find a place in the community where he could share his music."
