University of Hartford Attempts to Save the Planet

nomorepaperbills

The University of Hartford will begin electronic billing before the end of this year.  This effort will save tens of thousands of trees and lessen the impact of global warming.  It will also, most likely, cause a great deal of confusion.  The important thing for every Community Division family to know is that they must declare a primary email address, to which all official correspondence from the University of Hartford will be sent.  There are two ways to declare your primary email address:

1. Stop by any Community Division office (main campus, Handel Center, Simsmore Square) and give your primary email address to a friendly receptionist.

2. To sign on to the University’s self-service page, you will need your University of Hartford student ID number and PIN. The student ID number can be found on a pre-printed registration form or on any University of Hartford invoice. (If you can't locate the ID number, contact the Community Division office to request it.)  The six-digit default PIN is the student's date of birth (MMDDYY).

Go online to the University of Hartford self service web page at

https://banweb8.hartford.edu/ and click on student sign-on. Once you are signed on to the self-service site, click on Student Main Menu  → Hartt Community Division → I Fully Agree…Continue → View/Update Email Address.

At this point, you can enter the e-mail address to which billing messages should be sent. If you have more than one student in the Community Division, you must sign-in using the ID number and PIN for each and input your e-mail address for each.

December Sight Reading Parties will be held at HAMILTON HEIGHTS

On Friday, December 5th and Friday, December 12th, Sight Reading parties will be hosted by the Atria at Hamilton Heights, Senior Living Facility. (7:30-9pm on both Fridays)

http://www.atriaseniorliving.com/community.aspx?id=1574

7
The Atria at Hamilton Heights
The Atria at Hamilton Heights (off Fern Street, a few blocks from Prospect Ave) is close to both the University and the Fern Street UU Church. It is easy to get to, and has plenty of parking.

Please bring a stand (and folding chair if possible) and treats to share if you like. The residents at Hamilton Heights are invited to sight read with us too if they are string players. We will be reading from our usual sight reading books with an emphasis on "seasonal music" in honor of the holiday season.

Members of the Hartt Community Division Adult String Ensemble are encouraged to join the fun as well as members of the Intermezzo, Vivace, Concert Ensemble, OPUS and CYS orchestras.

The Atria at Hamilton Heights is a lovely and elegant place ~ very inviting for music making. We will set up to play in the first floor activities center, just as you enter the front door of the building.

Sight Reading parties at Hamilton Heights will be the same casual, fun, musical events we have come to love at the Hartt School, but now they will also be an opportunity to reach out to the community bringing musical fun to the residents of Hamilton Heights. We will have a wonderful time sight reading music together with friends, young and old.

An Important Reminder About Speeding on Campus
Reminder to obey the posted campus speed limit of 15 mph and to always yield for pedestrians.
Students, faculty, and staff are reminded to obey the posted campus speed limit of 15 mph and to always yield for pedestrians.

The Department of Public Safety reports that there have been a number of speeding incidents on campus this year. This is a concern not only for the well-being of students, faculty and staff, but also for the safety of the many young children on campus.

Every day, children from throughout the region come to campus to attend the University of Hartford Magnet School, Hartt Community Division classes, and other activities. It is up to each of us to ensure that we create a safe and healthy environment for our youngest visitors – and for each other.

In the coming weeks, Public Safety will be increasing the visibility of crosswalks in highly trafficked areas, with an emphasis on the crosswalks between D-Lot and the entrance to the Hartt Community Division. Please be mindful of these crosswalks, and of the traffic rules in Your Car on Campus.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Public Safety, University of Hartford

HSO Annual Holiday Pops! Spectacular Returns to the Bushnell on December 20th
Hartford Chorale and Connecticut Children’s Chorus to Sing at Festive Concert

Mortensen Hall at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts will be transformed into a “Winter Wonderland” on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm as the Hartford Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Holiday POPS! Spectacular. Led by Music Director Edward Cumming, this Hartford holiday tradition will feature festive carols and seasonal favorites, with guest performances by soprano Christy Lombardozzi, The Hartford Chorale, the Connecticut Children’s Chorus, and even a special visit from jolly old St. Nick!

Soprano Christy Lombardozzi recently completed her studies with the Yale Opera Program where she performed the roles of Adele in Die Fledermaus, Musetta in La Boheme, Diane in Orphee aux Enfers, and  Polpolka in Comedy on a Bridge.  Recent performance highlights include Lisette in La Rondine, Lidochka in Moskva, and Diane in Orphee aux Enfers with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano; Belinda in Dido and Aeneas with the Connecticut Chamber Orchestra; and Papagena in The Magic Flute with the Hot Springs Music Festival. Equally at home on the concert stage, Ms. Lombardozzi's oratorio credits include Haydn’s Creation, Handel’s Messiah, and Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai. Ms. Lombardozzi holds degrees from Yale University, University of Tennessee, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.

The Hartford Chorale is the primary symphonic chorus for the Greater Hartford community, particularly in its critically acclaimed collaborations with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Through its concerts and collaborations with the Hartford Symphony and other organizations, the Chorale seeks to reach and inspire the widest possible audience with exceptional performances of a broad range of choral literature, including renowned choral masterpieces.

The Connecticut Children's Chorus is the Hartford region's most comprehensive youth chorus program. Under the artistic direction of Dr. Stuart Younse, the Chorus continues to thrive as the region's premiere children's chorus, boasting performance invitations with the region's best professional ensembles and providing strength and excellence in training for Connecticut's youngest talented voices. The Chorus is split into five different levels, offering opportunities for students in grades one through twelve. Each choir performs a wide variety of high quality literature and receives regular training in vocal development and musicianship.
