Sight Reading Parties are back!

Starting on Friday, October 3rd, SIGHT READING PARTIES ARE BACK! Come join us on Friday evenings in room 342 from 7:30-9pm for sight reading fun (and tasty treats).

The schedule for this fall includes: Oct 3, Oct 10, Oct 17, Nov 7, Nov 14, Dec 5, Dec 12, Jan 16, Jan 23.

String students from the following ensembles and groups are welcome and invited to attend: Intermezzo, Vivace, Opus, Concert Ensemble, and CYS. We will begin the party with the most accessible sight reading and progress throughout the evening to more difficult music.

Depending on the numbers of students at different levels who attend, the evening will look something like this:
7:30-8 Intermezzo level sight reading
8-8:30 Vivace/Concert Ensemble level reading
8:30-9 Opus/CYS level reading

Everyone is invited to attend for the whole hour and a half, but we will "tailor" the reading to the levels of the students who come. Faculty and college students are invited and encouraged to come and play along side your students as well! Come, and bring a stand and a tasty treat to share.

Look for Sight Reading Party reminders in the Hartt Community Division E-Newsletter.

Music Composition Classes Start Oct. 26

The Inter-District Music Composition Program will be returning this year with classes starting on Oct. 26.  As
members of this program, students will work in small groups with one of the faculty composers, Ken Steen and Jessica Rudman. Students will learn to use notation or MIDI sequencing and digital audio software to communicate their musical ideas as well as compositional techniques used to create music. Our goal is to provide each student with the skills to develop his/her own voice as a composer, and small class size will allow students to spend a considerable amount of time on individual projects, which can then be featured on the end of year concert. This year, we will be offering four class levels:

~ Intro to Electronic Music Composition
~ Intro to Music Composition
~ Intermediate Music Composition
~ Advanced Music Composition

The program offers free tuition for students enrolled in grades 7 - 12 at a public, charter or magnet school.
Tuition for private or home-schooled students will be $100 for the year.  Registration materials are available in the Hartt Community Division Office and will be available online shortly.  Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.  Registration materials must be received by Monday, Oct. 13, 2008.

For more information or to receive registration materials, please contact Jessica Rudman at rudman@hartford.edu.
