The International Summer Ballet Academy (ISBA) is a premiere summer ballet school for advanced and intermediate students ages 13-21. Housed at the beautiful new Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center on the University of Hartford campus, the ISBA offers a rigorous and nurturing dance experience for pre-professional students. The world renowned faculty includes Haiyan Wu (USA International Ballet Competition Gold medalist, 2002), Kurt Douglas (Limón Dance Company) and Miguel Campaneria, chair of The Hartt School Community Division Dance Department.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants must attend an audition or submit an audition DVD. Identify your disk by writing your name, age, & material performed on the label. Recordings will not be returned.

Auditions on University of Hartford Campus are Feb 15, 2009. You must call to reserve your slot. 860-768-6000

Video Audition Requirements: Video (10 minutes maximum) should include work at the barre (one side only) plié, tendu, adagio, and grand battement; in the center (one side) consisting of an adagio, pirouettes, petit allegro and grand allegro. Women: please include pointe work combinations in center containing relevé, échappé, and piqué turns. Men: please include two turning combinations, a combination with tours en l’air, and petite allegro with beats. A short classical variation for men and women is optional.

Include a photograph showing first arabesque in center (on pointe or demi-pointe), and one letter of recommendation from a present dance teacher. Photos will not be returned.

All accepted participants are expected to arrive at the University of Hartford on Sunday, June 28, 2009 and depart on Sunday, July 27, 2009. Tuition is $3,500 (all inclusive). A limited number of merit scholarships will be offered to exceptional students.
