Kinsella Lecture Demo - 11/24/09

The dance department is planning a lecture demonstration with full costuming at Kinsella Magnet School in Hartford on Tuesday, November 24th.   The proposed time for the performance is 8:45am – 9:45am which will mean some absence from school and the Dance Department will provide a letter for your child’s school principal.

I.D/Swipe Cards for the Performing Arts Center

Student ID cards and parent cards for Students under 18 are available at the receptionist Desk. You wuill need this card to access the building from the Cafe. The University will charge $15 to issue any replacement cards .

NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS

No child will be allowed to wait for their parent or person picking them up from classes outside of either dance location building. Parents need to pick up their child from inside the lobby area. Parents parking at the New Performing Arts Center in Hartford will need to collect a pink Community Division Parking Pass from the Reception Desk.

Appropriate Clothing

Students should wear appropriate outdoor clothing when arriving at the Performing Arts Center and at our Simsbury location, and then change into their dance clothes in the changing rooms provided. Students should also leave both facilities in regular outdoor wear. No student should leave the builings in their dance clothes without covering up.

Shoes and dance floors

Students should change their shoes in the sound lock areas.  No ballet/dance shoes in the hallways and no outside shoes in the studios.  Students may cover their ballet/pointe shoes with an appropriate non-slip covering for class changes.

Hartt Gala – Schedule Changes for November 14/15th

Every year the Hartt Schools hosts a Gala Fundraiser. This year the theme is “the future of the performing arts” and it benefits our very own community division.  To help the school prepare for this wonderful event, we have given the staff extra space and time by moving some of the Saturday morning dance classes.  We ask for your understanding as we shift classes to the Sunday following the Gala

We will hold your dancers’ classes on Sunday November 15 and start the “day” at 1pm. All the classes will be in the regular studios at the regular intervals.

Here is the schedule for that day:

Discovery 1 with Miss Jessica- 1pm in Studio 2

Discovery 1/2 with Miss Esther – 4:45pm Studio 4

Tiny Tap 1 with Miss Esther - 2:00pm Studio 1

 

Discovery 2 with Miss Jessica – 1:45pm Studio 2

Discovery 2 with Miss Kaitlin – 1:00pm Studio 4

Tiny Tap 2 with Miss Esther – 1:00pm Studio 1

 

Children’s Ballet 1 with Miss Jessica – 2:30pm Studio 2

The Dance Department is once again holding a Nutcracker Suite t-shirt design Competition.

This contest is open to all registered Hartt Community Division Students.

Students need to submit their designs either electronically in a Jpeg format to  kilpatric@hartford.edu or by submitting their design to the attention of Amanda Kilpatrick, Rm S110,  The Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway,  Hartford  CT  06112.

Entrees must be received by 5pm on Friday, November 6th.   Entries received after this date and time will not be considered.

Winners will be notified by email and their design will be used on the t-shirt that will be on sale during our upcoming Nutcracker Suite performances.   Winners will receive a free t-shirt and two tickets for see our production.

Here are a few details about our production:

The Nutcracker Suite, Choreographed by Miguel Campaneria and featuring students from the Dance Department will be presented at Millard Auditorium at the University of Hartford on  Friday, December 18th at 7pm, Saturday, December 19th at 2pm and 7pm.  Tickets will be available at the University of Hartford Box Office shortly.  The phone number to order your tickets is:  (860) 768-4228
