- Suzuki Orchestra Director
Duties: Responsibilities include directing five Suzuki Orchestras, teaching lessons and classes on your specific instrument of study. There are two 17-week semesters and one optional 6-week summer session. Tremendous potential exists since we are part of a large university and a collegiate conservatory. Additional Suzuki training included in salary. Performance opportunities available in the area. Qualifications: A person who loves children and displays an engaging personality. Bachelor's degree in music required. SAA registered teacher training through book 5 required. Additional training is available through the University of Hartford fromTeri Einfeldt and/or Michele George. Faculty (part-time):
- Concert Winds Director
Concert Winds is an ensemble for middle school students and meets on Saturday mornings from 9am-11am. Concert Winds is part of Concert Ensemble, which is a full orchestra program. The students meet separately from 9am-10am as a string orchestra and a band, preparing music for their distinct instrumentations and styles. During the second hour of rehearsal, the winds merge with the strings and rehearse as a full orchestra; the saxophones receive chamber coachings in a different room at this time. This position is for the Concert Winds Director. Applicants should have significant experience in conducting and rehearsing a band, as well as familiarity with full orchestra. The Director is paid by an annual stipend for related job duties, rehearsals, concerts and any administrative details. The Director also has a student manager to help with attendance, preparing music and other responsibilities. First Steps in Music Teacher (part-time):
Responsibilities include: Teaching First Steps in Music classes (newborns through age five along with parents); preparing appropriate lesson plans as related to the curriculum; and some related administrative duties. There are three 10-week semesters and other summer sessions available. Immediate expectations include teaching 12 classes per week based upon enrollment; potential exists for significant growth.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in music and/or early childhood education is required. Training in the First Steps in Music program is required, although a strong candidate in early childhood music could begin teaching while simultaneously studying the curriculum; training will be provided at no cost to the employee. The successful candidate is someone who loves children and has the ability to interact appropriately with both students and parents attending the class.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience
