Progress Reports (private lessons):
Materials for Evaluation of faculty members:
The Hartt Community Division examines the progress of our faculty members based upon teaching practices and professional development. Among the aspects considered are: communication with parents and students, ability to provide a supportive learning environment, efficiency, punctuality, successful demonstration of techniques, and desire to foster a musical awareness in their students through listening, concert attendance, performances, competitions and other activities.
Each of our new faculty members are evaluated formally during their first year. At the completion of that year, they are placed in a 3-year rotation schedule for their next formal evaluation. The evaluation procedure is as follows:
- Teachers fill out a Self-Evaluation Form, which they will discuss with the department chair or other supervisor.
- Their supervisor(s) gather information from a retention study provided by the office staff and from the Instructor Evaluation Forms filled out by their students or by their students' parents.
- During the meeting with the teacher, the supervisor fills out a Conference Form detailing topics relating to the teacher's Self-Evaluation, the retention study, and the Instructor Evaluation Forms, as well as all other topics indicated on the Conference Form.
