About the Summer String Festival
The Hartt Community Division is excited to
host an intensive summer string
program! This festival is designed to
provide high school students with a weeklong
musical experience under the
guidance and encouragement of HCD
string faculty. String instruments included
in this program are violin, viola, cello, and
double bass.
Daily Schedule
Students will begin activities every day at
9:30am. Each day includes sectionals,
chamber ensemble coaching, and string
orchestra rehearsal. There will be other
activities throughout the week including a
soccer game, a guest ensemble performance,
a video, and a panel discussion allowing students
to ask questions about the music
profession.
There will be an hour lunch break everyday
and students should bring a brown bag lunch
and beverage. Students need to bring their
own stand labeled with their name. Each day
ends at 4pm.
Eligibility
Students who are entering grades 9-12 in Fall
2008 are eligible to participate.
Students should be playing at an intermediate
to advanced level for their age. If unsure
about eligibility please contact Susan Robison
to discuss.
No audition is necessary for the Hartt
SSF but please note that a signature of
a music instructor (private lesson
teacher or orchestra conductor) is
required on the enclosed registration
form.
Registration confirmation and information
sheets will be mailed after July 15.
Enrollment stays open for each instrument
until sections are filled.
Performance Information
The festival will end with a chamber ensemble
concert and string orchestra concert on
Friday, August 22, 2008. Both concerts are
free and all parents, family members, and
friends are encouraged to attend.
A reception will follow the string orchestra
concert.
