About the Trumpet Institute

The Hartt Summer Trumpet Institute is designed for three levels of trumpet players; Middle School, Intermediate High School, and Advanced High School. All sessions will focus on basic playing technique, range, reading skills, repertoire, ensemble playing, audition preparation, and instrument maintenance. The main goal of the week-long session is to get back in shape for the school year ahead, to be prepared for fall auditions, and to have great fun playing solos and in ensembles.

Middle School Session

This program is designed for trumpet Students entering grades 6 - 8. Students should have two years of playing experience. Students with only one year of playing experience may be admitted by audition with the Director. No other auditions are necessary. The Middle School session ends with a mini-concert for parents and friends to attend.

High School Sessions

The Intermediate Program is designed for trumpet students entering grade 9, or older students who have not yet reached an advanced playing level. Two years of playing experience is recommended.

The Advanced Program is for students who are entering grades 10 - 12 AND have reached a more advanced playing level. Students MUST have been accepted to their regional High School festival to attend. Three years of playing experience is recommended.

No auditions are necessary, although students with fewer years of playing experience or who are unsure of which program is most appropriate should request an audition with the Director.

Both High School Sessions will end with mock auditions for all students (practice auditions).
